As far as I've experienced, only Slow Time, Become Ethereal, Marked For Death (it helps quite a bit if you whack and slash at him afterwards) and Unrelenting Force (stops them from using their Breath shouts) are really useful. The Breath shouts barely do any damage at all to the dragon, I only use it to roleplay (since P'nax said the Fire Breath is used to say 'hello'. Now he always gets a fire blast in the face when I visit him, lol).Other possibilities that I didn't yet use are:- Elemental Fury: I use enchanted swords, so I can't use that shout. I'm still looking for the logic behind that.- Animal Allegiance: make a mammoth fight for you- Call Dragon: for obvious reasons- Dragonrend: also for obvious reasons. I don't use it because it's simply not in my present character's nature to use it against them, aside from Alduin. ^^- Storm Call: I've only got two words, so it isn't powerful enough yet.I'm thinking of installing a mod which makes the shouts a bit stronger/more useful 'though. I want to fight the dragons with only shouts, like a true DRAGONborn!I'm on PS3, so I can't mod, but I sympathize entirely. For the record, the exploit to eliminate shouting cooldown does help with this quite a bit, and I've had a lot of fun battling on top of mountains with dragons using only the power of my Thu'um.The only thing I don't like about it is the selection process for changing shouts takes so long on the consoles. That's why I'm upset that only Kinect owners get to use voice commands. The ability to automatically use shouts without having to open a menu every time you want to change them and the ability to circumvent unreasonably long cooldowns would make my Thu'um combat style a lot more fun to play.Posts: 3486 Joined: Thu Jul 05, 2007 8:21 am. I want to fight the dragons with only shouts, like a true DRAGONborn!Me too, buddy. Me too.If I were playing on a PC, one of the first things I would do is reduce the cooldown time of shouts, by a lot. As it stands, I tend to forget I even have them, except in certain specific situations, like Become Ethereal to take a long leap down, or Dragonrend so I can get in the beast's face. I also like Slow Time when fighting multiple enemies alongside followers. It cuts way back on the friendly fire.Posts: 3456 Joined: Mon Jan 01, 2007 7:55 pm. Marked for death is number 1 against dragons imoI do this.I wait until the Dragon starts to hover for a Debate move and then fire up a 3 word shout.I lost a dragon after a single arrow after one of these. I thought it had flown away, but had crash landed a long way away.It does make the job of being Dragon Born easier. There is another thread on the damages to characters / NPC's / dragons / creatures that this shout deals. It is a bit overpowered somewhat, and try not to hit your 'Friends'.Posts: 3396 Joined: Thu Mar 01, 2007 7:54 am. Dragons were never really supposed to be a part of the second age of Tamriel, the time in which takes place. They’re more at home in the fourth age, the temporal locale of which takes place a thousand years later. But ESO is nothing if not fluid in its lore, and so, here we are, with dragons. They are the star attractions in, the new ESO chapter due to be released for PC/Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on June 4 (May 20 for pre-purchase customers), which I played for an hour or so, at a recent media event.Dragons have gone largely unmentioned in this MMO since it was launched back in 2014, and have not featured in its various annual updates. Many centuries before the events of Skyrim, dragons ruled the regions of Altmora and Skyrim and were served and worshiped as if they were gods themselves. People really had no choice in the matter either. Back then, people did not know a whole lot about dragons or how to fight them. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Workshop Trainwiz's Workshop Really Useful Dragons This item has been removed from the community because it violates Steam Community & Content Guidelines. Skyrim Modding Interviews - Trainwiz. For this week's episode of Modding Interviews, we have the famous modder, and totally not an agent of Sheogorath made flesh, Trainwiz, known for a number of Morrowind and Skyrim mods including Sotha Sil Expanded, Racer Recursion, Deus Ex Machina, The Wheels of Lull, Really Useful Dragons, and Call of Trainwiz. I have decided to start replacing Skyrim's dragons with Thomas the Tank Engine characters. ( youtube.com ) submitted 5 years ago by Trainwiz Puts Trains Everywhere. According to the updated lore, they’ve been in the land of Elsweyr the whole time, confined, in a zoo of sorts. Until, that is, some fool lets them loose. You guessed it: That fool is me, the player.I begin the game in a comfortable castle room, in medias res, recovering (I’m told) from a recent dragon-mauling. My guards are surprised and impressed that I’m alive. But with dragons on the loose, I’m obliged to get to work, uncovering secrets, recruiting friends, slaying enemies, and all that fantasy narrative stuff.ESO goes out of its way to be friendly to newcomers to its world, so, as with last year’s update, anyone can jump right into this game, and quickly feel competent. Khajiit farmers in Elsweyr BethesdaIn combat, I slash and dodge. I loot treasure chests, I dialog with NPCs. I explore castle corridors, until I’m outside, where the world has a decorative feel inspired by South-East Asia. There are three main biomes in Elsweyr: savannah, forest and desert. I search for magic artifacts that will bring the dragons back. Soon, I learn more advanced combat moves, including magic. This early section plays out the same way if you’re a newbie, or a highly leveled denizen of ESO, upgraded to the gills with magic and might. The game levels itself against your abilities, offering a fair fight. Of course, experienced players will have access to spells and other useful skills to make early combat more varied.I encounter my first dragon after an hour or so of fighting less exotic enemies. I don’t want to spoil the game, but it’s enough to say that my feeble abilities are not enough to slay the creature. Its appearance is merely a lesson that killing these beasts is no walk in the park. Skyrim’s “dragon-shouts” are not available in this world. This means, I need help. And so the adventure begins, in which I’ll eventually team up with other questers in order to take out dragons in staged instances that arrive at random times and places. It’s possible to kill a dragon with just a few comrades, but not advisable. The general guide is for eight players. Elsweyr also comes with a 12-player raid, called “Sunspire.” Necromancy at work BethesdaApart from dragons, the other main attraction to Elsweyr is a new class of player, a Necromancer, the game’s first new class since 2017’s Morrowind chapter. As the name suggests, this character has useful skills when it comes to interacting with the dead. Necromancers specialize in illusion, destructive magic and mastery of human souls. In a fight, the Necromancer is able to conjure minions or reanimate any humanoid corpses that are laying around. Once thrown into the fray, these undead helpers are limited in their abilities, but they can also be used as bait for explosive spells. The Necromancer’s main downside is that it lacks the ability to move quickly in a sticky situation. But a phalanx of rearguard zombie-allies seems like a fair trade-off.Part of ESO’s charm is exploring its fantasy worlds and interacting with its many NPCs. Elsweyr is the homeland of the leonine Khajiit race. Apart from loosened dragons, their biggest problem is an invasion from the Imperial northerners, who have shown up with an army of bad guy Necromancers. For fans of ESO, this storyline brings back some familiar faces from adventures past, including Abnur Tharn, voiced by Alfred Molina and Sir Cadwell of Codswallop, a comic-relief knight voiced by John Cleese. The Elder Scrolls Online has been played by around 12 million people since its launch, with last year’s high fantasy Summerset chapter cited by publisher Bethesda as its most successful year ever. Elsweyr is available now, in variously adorned editions. Keep an eye out for Polygon’s review closer to launch. Share.ByDespite having been released way back in 2011, the gaming world ( the PC community in particular) still can't seem to get enough of Tamriel's northern kingdom. This is largely thanks to the tireless efforts of the modding community, who have created thousands of mods that make Skyrim as beautiful and bug-free as any next-gen title out there. Plus a BUNCH of other mods that are just downright insane. These are nine of our favorite so-wacky-you-almost-won't-believe-it mods forReally Useful DragonsThis mod by Nexus user Trainwiz (and friends) is a classic that many of you will probably recognize immediately. It replaces the standard dragon character model with one that looks like Thomas the Tank Engine, or a non-descript facsimile thereof. It also swaps out the draconic roars and shouts for the nostalgic - yet also eerie - toots of a steam engine, and turns Dragon Souls into Train Souls.MLP HorsesIn this day and age of My Little Pony fandom, it's not surprising to see Rainbow Sparkle or Applejack show up in a mod now and again. That being said, no matter how many times we experience it, it won't make seeing that bubbly little cartoon horse carry around a full-grown warrior any less jarring.Heart BreakerIf you're more into Temple of Doom than Friendship is Magic, then Reko's Heart Breaker mod is right up your alley. If you manage to down an enemy in combat - without killing them - you can perform a finishing move worthy of Mola Ram himself. Tearing an opponent's heart from their chest will not only let everyone around you know who's boss, but you also collect a Heart item for your trouble - they're worth a few HP if you eat it.No SpidersFancyPantz's No Spider - Piderman Dition may actually replace Skyrim's arachnoid infestation with something even more terrifying. These friendly neighborhood Spider-Men are decidedly malformed, in order to give them a more spider-like sensibility.Autotuned BearsThis simple audio replacer comes from the user Snoopey, who also created this excellent but sadly no-longer available Zoidberg mudcrab mod, removes the loud and intimidating growl of Skyrim's bears to replace them with friendly auto-tuned greetings.Tourettes CrabSimilar to Snoopey's singing bears, this soundboard mod takes the clicks and scuttles of Skyrims mudcrabs and gives them a not-so-healthy injection of personality. Beware - this mod contains foul language and is not recommended for younger viewers.Macho DragonsAnother recognizable classic, FancyPantz makes their second appearance on our list with Macho Dragons - the wonderfully wacky mod that reskins all the game's dragons as wrestling legend Macho Man Randy Savage. Complete with sound bites and one hell of a beard / shades combo, this is a must-experience mod for anyone playing the game on PC.The Chicken Mod(s)Have you ever wanted to own chickens? Ever wanted to ride a chicken? Ever wanted to be a chicken? Well, thanks to the efforts of Erian Dragonborn, clayman67 and a Nexus user known simply as 'Mike,' you can!The Chicken Mod by Erian Dragonborn clads players in an insanely fashionable set of Chicken Armor and grants them the ability to no only summon flocks of their very own chickens, but also the all-powerful Master Chicken - which will fight by your side in combat and lay waste to the foes of the ChickenBorn. For a bonus, install clayman67's Explosive Chickens mod - it does exactly what it's title implies, and you won't regret this simple addon. Couple the Chicken Mod with theMike's Mystical Mounts and you can take your Chickenman to the next level with your very own Giant Chicken as a mount. These are but a few of the fantastically zany mods you can insert into Skyrim. If you've got your own favorites, or think we may have missed something, let us know in the comments below! Manually installing mods gives you a number of advantages over using Mod Management tools:. Using my system, it is more accurate. You can install parts of mods rather than the entire mod (you may for example, really like the iron armour from an armour replacement mod but not like the rest). You can pick and choose what you use from mods, installing just the parts you want to use. You become more familiar with how mods work by installing them manuallyThe best place to find mods is the Skyrim Nexus website which can be found here:. Skyrim Really Useful Dragons GamesA good place to start is the Top Files section which can be found by clicking on the Files button and select Top Files. It will give you an idea of what is popular and also show you some of the best mods made. Before you install mods, it is a good idea to organise the mods that you have and any that you download. This is true whether you use Mod Management tools or choose to install your mods manually. Skyrim Really Useful Dragons Mod GifEnsure that the mods are renamed if the original zip file has a name that doesn’t match the mod itself. So for example, Sounds of Skyrim has patches for popular mods. The zip file is called Compatibility Patches-20193-1-02 so I renamed it Sounds of Skyrim – Compatibility patches. Otherwise in a few months time you may have no idea what the mod is. Next, create a folder and copy all your correctly named mods into it. Also create a folder called Installed and a folder called New. We will use the folders during the mod installation process. If you are using Skyrim Nexus, it is also a good idea to mirror their categories to make mods easier to sort and also to find. Finally, and most importantly copy your entire Skyrim folder so that you have a backup. That way if something goes wrong you can roll back without re-installing the game. Next, on the Files tab, check for any patches that the modder has created to allow the mod to run well alongside other mods that may conflict with it. You can also message the mod creator and also talk to other gamers playing Skyrim and discuss or ask questions about the mod on the Posts tab. Finally, check the readme files that come with the mod, looking for conflicts, installation recommendations and also where in the load order the mod should goIt is important to always read the instructions closely. Even mods that you wouldn't expect to cause issues can and will cause problems, including the dreaded Crash to Desktop (CTD).An example is ApachiiSkyHair by the talented modder Apachii. This mod can cause CTDs when you change hair, sex or race when selecting your character at the beginning of the game. The modder on the Description tab in Skyrim Nexus tells you exactly how to fix this problem (install Show Race Menu Options by MojoDaJojo and voila, no more issues with this mod). Typically, you will copy one or all of three folders:. Textures - add detail and surface texture to all objects you see in game. Meshes - control the shape of all the objects in game. Scripts - changes how things behave in the gameThere may also be other files.bsa,.esp in the Data folder. Copy all of these to your Data folder. Windows may ask you to overwrite files in the game directory, typically you would say yes, unless there is a reason that you don’t want a specific file overwritten (for example, overwrite a larger (and more detailed) texture file with a smaller one).Once you have installed the mod, continue to install mods until you have installed five to ten mods (depending on the type of mod). If you are installing texture replacers or mods that add small amounts of new content such as new weapons or armour, you can install more mods at once. If the change game play or make more significant changes to balance or objects in the game then install fewer. If I only installed five to ten mods, it is much simpler to find that out. If you do introduce a bug to your game, deselect all the mods you just added and add them back one at a time (testing the game before adding another mod) until you come to the one that causes the issue.Important: If you find a mod that causes issues, immediately install it and move the mod to another folder so you don’t accidentally install it again later on.Testing itself is simple enough.First, load up BOSS. If you don’t have this tool installed or are unsure how to use it, check out my hub that introduces this excellent tool:BOSS does a number of things that are crucial to keeping your game stable. It checks mods for any missing dependencies. BOSS ensures that you don’t have the problems with the mods you have installed. You will be advised if you need to clean any mods using TES5edit (also introduced in my hub on BOSS)Most importantly, it fixes your load order to ensure that the mods are loaded in the optimal order. Most game crashes occur on loading new areas into the game (or when the game starts). So to test this, start a new game in a city and go to some shops and fast travel a few times. Also check out how the mods you just installed look in game. If you just replaced all the armour sets in Skyrim, go to a place with lots of soldiers and check out how the armour looks. If you are happy and the game is stable it is time to install some more mods! Before you do; some final steps. First, empty the New folder you created moving the mods into the Installed folder. Now, copy the Skyrim game folder so that you have a backup of your current stable game. Suppose you are surfing a website looking at mods and you see a screen shot of a particularly cool object that you really want see in your game. The trouble is, the rest of the objects included in the mod you really don’t like. If you are using a Mod Manager, this is a problem as you can only install the whole mod. You could try to removing the parts that you don’t like, but this could cause instability or game crashes. To manually install specific parts of a mod, you need to identify where they are in the mod itself. To do this:. Down load XnView from. Install using the simple installer. Click OK on the Configuration Menu (below). Before beginning, a couple of limitations with XnView. First, the mod needs to be extracted (use WinZip or WinRar). Second, XnView cannot look inside.bsa or.esp files (this is not an issue as it is not recommended to split these)Click File and then Open and browse to the location of the mod. Choose the Textures folder you are interested in, select all the textures and click OKXnView will load each texture and display it on screenTo view them, you can either click through them, or click on the Browser button on the left hand end of the tool bar to see them all in tiles. Skyrim Really Useful Dragons PicturesNow I know the name of the texture file that corresponds to the plant I like (load49), I can copy this from the mod into my Skyrim textures folder enabling this beautiful loading screen to be seen in game.Note: Pay particular attention to the folder structure of the mod. You can see from the screenshot below that the Load Screen textures from the VictoriaG Load Screens Skyrim mod go into the folder:/Textures/interfaceLoadScreenTexturesSo ensure that you mirror the folder structure in your Skyrim game folder to ensure that they install correctly. If you are installing new content such as this mod, install any.esp files contained in the mod folder. Mods are synonymous with the Elder Scrolls series. The best decision that Bethesda made when making the Elder Scrolls III Morrowind, was including the Construction Set which was used to create the game itself. This gave modders unparalleled access to the game and allowed them to make mods to change literally anything in game as well as adding tonnes and tonnes of new content. In my hub today, I looked at installing mods manually. We covered:Preparing mods for installationChecking the readme documents and the Skyrim Nexus site for information on load order advice, installation instructions, dependencies and also mod conflictsWe then looked at how best to manually install modsThen we examined mod testingFinally, we looked at partially installing mods using XnView to identify individual texturesFollowing through my system, you will be able to install all the mods you like (I currently run 250+) and the game should be stable and perform well. Of course, manually installing mods is not for everyone. I review two excellent Mod Organiser tools, Nexus Mod Manager (designed for beginners to modding with a simple to use interface and one click mod installation) and Mod Organiser (a more advanced tool with features such as profiles and a more granular installation process). My hub on Nexus Mod Manager can be found here:My hub on Mod Organiser can be found here:Many thanks for reading, I do hope that you have found this hub useful and informative and you are enjoying your heavily modded but stable Skyrim game!
